Pros & Cons
Campervans vs Motorhomes?
At Imoova, we offer both campervan and motorhome relocations from $1 per day from trusted suppliers worldwide such as Jucy, Britz, Apollo, and Travellers Autobarn. But what's the difference?
What's the difference?
Typically, a campervan is a van which has been converted to be self contained. They are usually smaller than a motorhome. They can start very basic, with nothing but a mattress in the back. However typically they will at least have basic cooking and washing facilities too. There is usually no divide between the drivers cab and the living space so for long term van life this is something to consider.
A motorhome is purpose built and therefore far more spacious. They vary in size, usually 2, 4 or 6 berth so they're ideal for families. The drivers cab is separated from the living space so after a long day of driving you have the space to go and sit in a different area. Typically there will be a toilet, shower, multiple beds, storage space, a fridge freezer, microwave, TV, gas stove, and cooking equipment.
Which is better?
This totally depends on your circumstances. How many people you intend to travel with, how much space you need, how high maintenance you are!
Some pros of campervans include:
Smaller and therefore easier to fit into standard parking spaces
Easier to free camp
Easier to drive on steep/windy roads compared a motorhome
Depending on the vehicle it won't be powered so no need to plug in at a campsite
A smaller vehicle will be more fuel efficient
Some cons include:
You'll need to pack lighter with less storage space available
Some campervans won't have a toilet - this could also be a pro as you don't have to empty it!
Less space to relax in evenings
Some pros of a motorhome include:
You can bring the whole family
You have a separate space away from the drivers cab
You don't have to pack as light with more storage space
You can cook your own healthy meals with a fridge and stove
You have the comfort and convenience of a shower and toilet, however this also means you have the responsibility of emptying the toilet, waste water, and keeping fresh water topped up
Some cons of a motorhome include:
A big 6 berth motorhome can be difficult to park in public spaces
It can be difficult to free camp
You have to be plugged in at campsites every few nights to recharge the battery
A bigger, heavier vehicle will use more fuel
