Tips
How To Travel Canada on a Budget
Canada isn't exactly famous for being a budget friendly destination - but it can be if you know where to look! We're here to share our top tips for exploring all Canada has to offer, at a fraction of the cost.
Transport Costs
As we all know, Canada is HUGE which can make travelling long distances expensive. This is where Imoova comes in! You can relocate rental RV's from only $1 per day! Rental companies such as Canadream, Fraserway & Karma Campervans need their RV's moved after one way trips, typically the vehicles get put on trucks but this is expensive so instead they put customers behind the wheel for only $1 per day - it's a win win situation. New listings are uploaded daily on Imoova.com and you could travel to Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Penticton & more. They often reimburse gas costs up to a certain amount and also winterize the vehicles. It's a great option for visiting those hidden gems where public transport doesn't reach. With an RV you also save money on accommodation costs - even better! View all available relocations HERE.
If you can't drive then check out Megabus or Greyhound for getting across provinces on a budget.
Depending on your circumstances, when in the major cities like Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal it may be cheaper for you to buy a weekly pass for public transport.
Travel in Shoulder Seasons
If you can, try and avoid peak seasons. There are generally fewer tourists and more reasonably priced hotels in May to early June, as well as September to October. When booking flights use comparison sites such as Skyscanner and Kayak.
Accomodation
Instead of going direct, check out Booking.com and Expedia before booking hotels. The more you use them the higher discounts you'll get on future bookings. Also check out HostelWorld and Airbnb. Couchsurfing is a popular option amongst budget travellers but be sure to exercise caution and prioritise your safety. Canada is also home to some of the most beautiful national parks in the world so why not give camping a go if you're visiting in the warmer months? If you're planning to stay in Canada for an extended period of time you could also check out WWOOFING (working for accomodation on farms), or working in hostels in exchange for a room.
Attractions
In a country as beautiful as Canada, you don't have to look far for some cheap activities - just go outside! There are countless hikes, national parks, cycling tracks, fishing spots, & swimming spots. You can even entertain yourself in the city on a budget, with many museums and art galleries offering free admission on certain days of the week. Many cities offer free walking tours which is a great way to meet fellow travellers, get your bearings, and see the hotspots. Some cities also offer discount cards which may be worthwhile if you're planning to visit multiple attractions - check out the Toronto City Pass for example.
